Woman roams around with EVM throwing EC officials, police in a tizzy

Kolkata: A supporter of an independent candidate contesting in Nalhati municipal elections gave a tough time to the district and state Election Commission officials as he suddenly picked up the EVM machine from inside a polling booth at Ward number 12 and walked away with it.
All hell broke loose inside the polling booth on Sunday morning after the woman, supposed to be a supporter of an independent of Ward number 12 under Nalhati municipality, walked away from the booth with the EVM. The police and security personnel were stunned to see such an incident unfold in front of their eyes.
After taking a stroll around the booth, the woman later placed the EVM where it was. Some of the locals said that it happened in front of senior administrative officials who were at the polling booth at the time of the incident.
It was learnt that the woman has been identified as one Mimi Bibi, a supporter of Kazi Mahidul who is contesting the election from Ward number 12 as an independent candidate. Following this bizarre act, voting had to be suspended in the booth for a while. It again resumed after the woman kept the EVM at the proper place.
A question here rises
how the woman, who is a supporter of a contestant, could perform such an act with the Election Commission officials and police all around the premises.
Some locals have alleged that this had happened due to alleged inactivity of the police.
The reason behind the incident is yet to be ascertained by the Election Commission officials. They are yet to come up with any official statement on the matter.
It was learnt that the woman in question alleged that she did this as rigging was taking place inside the booth. The allegation was, however, denied by a district administrative official.
