Two persons arrested for abducting man over business rivalry

Kolkata: Two persons were arrested by New Town police station on Saturday for allegedly abducting a person of Madhyamgram from New Town area. The accused persons were remanded to judicial custody after they were produced before Barasat Court

on Sunday.

Sources informed that on November 29 one Abdullah Rahman of Madhyamgram was abducted by some miscreants who are known to him. Later, kidnappers called his family and demanded Rs 10 lakh as ransom. They also threatened that if they fail to give the money, Abdullah will be killed. On Saturday, Abdullah's younger brother Akbar Ali lodged a complaint with New Town police station against the kidnappers. The sleuths were able to track the tower location of the mobile number from which the ransom call was made. Police went to Narkeldanga and were able to locate the kidnappers. Later with the assistance from Narkeldanga police station, the sleuths held Abdullah and nabbed two of the kidnappers identified as Md Rahaman Ansari and Md Raj Ekram.

While interrogating the duo arrested, police came to know that Abdullah is a promoter in the Madhyamgram area. He had some business transaction with Ansari who is also in the promoting business. To recover the amount, Ansari had planned the kidnap.

On November 29, Ansari asked Abdullah to meet him. Around 9:30 pm Abdullah came to City Center II with his friend Saiful in a car. They parked the vehicle and went to a bar cum restaurant near Chinar Park. After having done, they left the restaurant and went towards their car. Meanwhile, Ansari asked Abdullah to let him drive the car. When he handed over the keys to Ansari, about 4-5 persons jumped on Abdullah and kidnapped him using his car by showing a firearm. But Saiful was left unhurt. Later, police seized a small toy pistol from their possession which was used to kidnap Abdullah
