Hooghly police have arrested two persons for their alleged involvement in the spurious medicine racket busted from Rishra on Friday.
The accused are Karuna Sahu and Gobinda Sahu. Karuna is the owner of the house where the fake medicine racket had been operating for sometime.
The investigation officer came to know in the interrogation that the spurious medicines might have been supplied to four districts. The police were trying to know where these medicines might have gone to.
Acting on a tip-off, the district police raided a house situated on the N S Road in Rishra on Friday night and found spurious medicines and bottles and labels of some branded drugs. The accused used to stick the labels on the bottles that contain the spurious medicines. According to a senior police officer, there were vitamin syrups and some other types of medicines. According to preliminary investigation, police suspect that this could be a part of an interstate racket that has been operating from the district. Police said that the accused were using the house for the past 10 days after which they had a plan to shift to another place as a part of their strategy to evade arrest.
During the interrogation, the accused admitted that the spurious medicines have been circulated to some districts. Police are trying to know the names of the shops where these medicines might have reached to. A few months ago, Hooghly police intercepted a car from Dankuni that was carrying fake medicines. Police came to know that the accused might have some links with the previous incident.
Police said that the accused used to do packaging of the bottles of spurious medicines from a room situated on the N S Road. The main accused are still at large. Police are conducting raids to nab the culprits.
