TMC worker's body bearing injury marks found in pond

Kolkata: There was tension in Madhabdihi Purba Para in East Burdwan on Wednesday morning following the recovery of the body of a Trinamool Congress worker from a pond.

The deceased has been identified as Anil Maji (42). Swapan Debnath, Trinamool Congress president of

East Burdwan alleged that Maji had been murdered by BJP workers.

He said the police was carrying investigation and demanded stringent action against those involved.

Debnath went to the morgue where the autopsy was conducted in the afternoon. Later, the body was handed over to his relatives.

Debnath said Maji was an active member of the party and was a good organiser.

He alleged that BJP had targeted him as the leaders thought that they would made an inroad in the area by eliminating Maji.

Maji went missing from Tuesday evening. After he did not return home his family members lodged a complaint with the police.

On Wednesday morning his body was found floating in a pond with marks of external injury. The police recovered the body and sent it for autopsy. The motor cycle in which he was travelling was recovered from a nearby pond. The death of Maji has created a flutter in the area. It may be recalled that another Trinamool worker was murdered at Basanti in south 24 parganas on Monday.

BJP leaders however denied any involvement in the murder and said Maji had sacrifice life because of Trinamool infighting.
