TMC worker shot at in Sodpur, critical

Kolkata: A Trinamool Congress (TMC) worker was shot at by some miscreants on Wednesday night at Sodpur on BT Road.

The injured TMC worker, identified as Paritosh Das, has been admitted to a private hospital on Eastern Metropolitan Bypass in Kadapara.

According to locals, on Wednesday around 11:15 pm, Das went to Sodpur Traffic More to buy food. After buying the food, he was returning home on his bike with another person sitting on the pillion seat. All of a sudden a white SUV blocked their way and forced Das to stop the bike.

Three-four persons got down from the car. Before Das could react, the persons allegedly started firing at him from close range. The pillion rider somehow managed to escape unhurt but Das suffered bullet injuries on his chest and body.

Hearing gun shots, local residents and pedestrians ran for their lives in fear. Miscreants fled the scene as soon as Das fell on the road, bleeding profusely. He was rushed to a private hospital at Belgharia. Later he was shifted to another private hospital at Kadapara on EM Bypass. At present, his condition is critical. Sources informed that a few more persons were in the car. Locals claimed at least six miscreants were present at the crime scene.

An attempt to murder case has been initiated at the Khardah police station.

Till Thursday night no one could be arrested. Sleuths are checking if Das had any enmity with anyone. Ananda Roy, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Zone II (Belgharia) of Barrackpore Police said: "A case has been started. Probe is on to nab the culprits at the earliest."
