Thousands withdrawn from cop's account, accused absconding

Kolkata: Miscreants withdrew money from an ATM in the Sealdah area using a police personnel's ATM card details. It is suspected that the miscreants used a skimmer to obtain the card details.

Sources informed that Suparna Kundu, a lady police personnel, used to perform duty at Kolkata Police Training School. She lives at Chhatra in Bankura. On Monday midnight, when she was at home.

Suparna received a message from the bank holding her salary account that Rs 40,000 have been transferred to another account. Later, on Tuesday, she received another message where she found Rs 16,000 have been withdrawn from an ATM in Sealdah. Within five minutes, two more messages came reading Rs 10,000 have been withdrawn using the

same ATM.

She immediately reported the matter to the bank. She lodged a complaint at Regent Park police station.

Immediately, a case was initiated on charges of cheating, forgery, and criminal conspiracy against the unknown. The sleuths suspect that a skimmer was used in the crime. According to the sources, Kundu withdrew some money before living for Bankura recently. They also suspect that a skimming device might be attached to the ATM counter. Police are yet to check the ATM machine from where she withdrew the money.

To identify the culprits, the sleuths from Regent Park police station already got in touch with the Bank Fraud section of Kolkata Police.
