Suvendu celebrates 75 years of Contai Co-operative Bank

Kolkata: State Transport and Irrigation minister Suvendu Adhikari on Sunday attended the celebrations of 75 years of Contai Co-operative Bank Limited.

Adhikari, who is the chairman of Contai Co-operative Bank Ltd hoisted the flag at the bank's head office.

The minister also took part in a rally from the head office of the co-operative bank with thousands of eminent members, customers, well-wishers, ex-employees and present employees of the bank, covering major areas of Contai Town.

Contai Co-operative Bank Limited is one of the best performing co-operative banks in India and has one of the biggest customer networks in the country.

The bank is the largest urban co-operative bank of Bengal as well as of eastern India with the deposit of nearly Rs 1200 crore, advance of Rs 683 crore and has earned a profit of Rs 27 crore as on March 2019 end.

Contai Co-operative Bank Limited has now 16 fully computerised branches located in Midnapore, Kolkata and Hooghly with around 3 lakh account holders.

It has introduced a wide range of schemes at attractive interest rates both for general and senior citizen, which has become very popular, especially among the middle-class in view of the easy repayment plans. Senior citizens get 0.5 percent extra interest on savings.

The bank that had started its journey on December 15, 1945 got the permission from RBI to operate in the entire state of West Bengal in 2011. Arup Roy, minister of Co Operation department, MV Rao, Additional Chief Secretary of Co Operation department and MP Sisir Adhikari, also attended the platinum jubilee celebration.
