Storm claims one life in Kharagpur, rainfall continues in Bengal

Kolkata: With deep depression setting in after cyclone Titli lost its strength, rainfall continues in different parts of Gangetic Bengal. There was continuous drizzle in and around the city on Friday.

There was heavy storm at some places including Kharagpur, where a middle-aged man was killed and seven injured when a portion of a wall collapsed.

As per the prediction of the Regional Meteorological department, there was rainfall since Thursday night at various places as Titli gradually lost its strength and turned into a deep depression and approached the state through the Odisha coast, causing rainfall in Gangetic Bengal.

Despite the rainfall, a large section of people set out for pandal-hopping on Friday. There was good gathering of people in many famous Durga Puja pandals in the city.

Though there is prediction for rainfall in the next 24 hours, weather during the days of Durga Puja that is from Sunday onwards, will remain favourable for pandal-hopping.

There was heavy storm in Kharagpur, which claimed the life of one Ilias Mallick. Local people told police that a portion of a wall collapsed all of a sudden on the man, when he was heading out for work on Friday afternoon. He received severe injuries, along with seven others. They were taken to Kharagpur Sub-Divisional Hospital, where he was declared brought dead while the other seven were admitted. The condition of three of them is stated to be critical.
