STF nabs man with huge amount of Indian, US currency

Kolkata: The Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police has nabbed a person with a huge amount of US and Indian currency notes on Thursday night, from outside Dum Dum Metro station.

According to sources, on Thursday afternoon police came to know that a person would come to Dum Dum area with a huge amount of foreign currency to hand it over to someone. Acting on the tip-off, a police team was deployed along with the source outside of the Metro station. At around 7:30 pm, the source identified a person coming out of the Metro station with a bag.

Police personnel soon surrounded him and asked him to show the contents of his bag. Initially, the suspect identified as Dipak Biswas of Moynaguri in Darjeeling, tried to confront the STF personnel in plain clothes by asking for their identity cards.

However, police later managed to tackle the situation and took him to Sinthee police station. There cops searched the bag and found 32,000 US dollar worth approximately Rs 22 lakh and Indian currency worth Rs 14.72 lakh.

During interrogation, Biswas told police that he has been staying at Nagerbazar area for the past few months. He was asked about the source of the money, which he failed to answer. Later, a case was initiated against him and Biswas was arrested at around 8:35 pm.
