State Disaster Management Dept set to recruit at least 1,136 employees

Kolkata: The State Disaster Management Department is all set to recruit around 1136 employees to work in various departments to ensure better services during natural calamities and rescue operations.

"We have got approval from the Cabinet to hire officials. The Department of Disaster Management and Civil Defence after a long gap have opened recruitment for various posts. No one was recruited in the last 30 years.

"We have already issued an advertisement for different posts such as Staff Officer Instructor," said state Disaster Management minister Javed Khan.

He said that state National Volunteer Force, Civil Defence and Water Wing play a

very important role in rescue operations after natural calamities.

"I am very fortunate to work under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and such sincere and hardworking officials from the Department of Disaster Management and Civil Defence. After conducting the cabinet meeting, our Chief Minister had said that we should provide better services to the common people," added the minister.

It might be mentioned after the recent cyclone Bulbul, the Chief Minister conducted an aerial survey of cyclone-hit areas in North 24-Parganas and handed over cheques

of Rs 2.4 lakh each to

the family members of five people who lost their lives in the calamity.

Taking note of the fact that at least 15 lakh hectares of agricultural land was damaged due to the storm, the Chief Minister said that the affected farmers would get all help from the government.
