State declares sectional holiday for Karam Puja on September 9

Kolkata: The Mamata Banerjee government has declared a 'sectional holiday' on September 9, on the occasion of Karam Puja, an agricultural festival of tribals. The government employees of tribal communities would enjoy a paid holiday on this day so that they can participate in the festival.

"The Governor is pleased to declare September 9 as a sectional holiday on occasion of 'Karam Puja' for the employees belonging to tribal communities employed in state government offices, local bodies, statutory bodies, boards, corporations and undertakings controlled or owned by the state government and in educational institutions and other offices/institutions under the control of the state government, as well as for the employees in tea gardens all over the state," read a notification issued by the state government.
