Sovan Chatterjee steps down

Kolkata: Sovan Chatterjee has resigned from the post of the chairman of the Standing Committee on Fisheries on Tuesday. Chatterjee went to the office of the Speaker Biman Bandyopadhyay and submitted resignation on Tuesday afternoon.

Bandyopadhyay had called up Chatterjee last week and asked him to see him in the Assembly. The members of the standing committee had complained to the Speaker about the absence of Chatterjee from the meetings. Chatterjee resigned as the minister for Fire and Emergency Services, Housing and Environment in November 2018. He also resigned from the post of mayor of Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC). Since then he did not attend the meeting of the Standing Committee of Fisheries.

It may be mentioned that the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has carried out a special drive in ward 131 where Chatterjee is the councillor after some dengue cases had been reported from the area. Chatterjee, however, has not resigned from the posts of MLA and councillor.
