Soon, video conference facility at all major quarantine centres in Howrah

Kolkata: Video conference facility will be introduced at all major quarantine and isolation centres in Howrah district facilitating timely and easy interaction between doctors from state-run hospitals and their counterparts working at these centres.

People at the quarantine centres may also be allowed to use the facility to interact with their near and dear ones if required.

If everything goes as planned the facility will be made available from Monday onwards. Initially, infrastructure for the same will be developed at Howrah Dumurjola Stadium that has been turned to a quarantine centre. The same will be developed at the isolation centres at Satyabala Id Hospital at Ghusuri and Sanjiban Hospital at Uluberia.

According to an official of the district administration, setting up of the infrastructure will make the task easier as the minimum time required to travel to the quarantine and isolation centre will get saved and doctors can give their advice from their present location in any urgent situation.

People, who came in contact with patients suffering from COVID-19, have been quarantined while many are in isolation centres as well. As per the guidelines, isolation centres have to be a completely separate set up and all precautionary measures have to be followed at the centres to check the spread of the disease.

The recently renovated Dumurjola Stadium can quarantine 150 people at and the district authority had decided to convert it into a quarantine centre soon after the state government directed all district authorities to create such infrastructure as a measure to fight against COVID-19.

Besides Satyabala ID Hospital at Ghusuri and Sanjivani Hospital at Uluberia, there are small isolation centres at the block level. The video conference facility, however, will not be available right now at all these centres, said a state government official adding that all steps have been taken to set up the needed infrastructure for the same as early as possible. It is expected that concerned persons can use the facility from Monday onwards.

The district administration has taken a series of steps to check the spread of the disease. Police were found creating awareness among people by moving around different places. ASHA workers are visiting door-to-door to collect information if there is anyone having symptoms of COVID-19.
