Soon, 2 new police stations at Malda, Birbhum

The state government has decided to set up two new police stations in Malda and Birbhum.

The decision has been taken in the Cabinet meeting headed by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday in the state secretariat, Nabanna.

The decision has been taken to set up a new police station in Malda by bifurcating the jurisdiction under Kaliachak police station. The new police station that would be set up will be named as Mothabari police station.

It may be mentioned that there had been some trouble taking place in Kaliachak which is a bordering area in Malda. Moreover, cross border crimes has also been an issue in the area. Sources said that the state government has taken the decision to set up another police station by bifurcating the jurisdiction of Kaliachak police station to ensure better policing in the area.

Jurisdiction of another new police station that will come in Birbhum will be created by bifurcating the area of Mayureswar police station. The new police station will be named as Mallarpur police station.

The decisions related to giving land to different organisations for setting up different utilities have also been taken in the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

Around 10 cottah land will be given to the Pollution Control Board to set up their divisional office in Asansol.

It has also been decided to give 8.72 acre land at Sarmastarchawk in South 24 Parganas for setting up of an arsenic research centre that will be run by the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation.

Around 2.56 acres of land in Kashberia and Tentulberia Mouza will also be given to India Power Corporation Haldia Limited to set up a power station. The land will be given in a lease for 30 years.

It has also been decided to recruit 969 contractual workers in the transport corporations to ensure better bus services. This comes at the time when the state Transport department is replacing all the old buses with new ones.
