Son kills father over delay in arranging money

Kolkata: Infuriated over his father's alleged delay in arranging funds for his engineering studies abroad, a 28-year-old youth bludgeoned his father to death at their Panchasayar residence in the South suburban part of the city on Saturday afternoon at around 2 pm. The victim Subhasis Sanyal (60) was watching television relaxing on the bed when his son Arnab hit him several times on the head with an iron dumbbell resulting in his death. Police sources informed that Arnab was studying electronics communication in a private college but had left it in the year 2014. He was constantly pressuring his father to send him abroad for further studies. His father had told him that he needed some time to arrange the money as studying abroad calls for a huge expense.
Arnab's mother, who was busy doing her household chores just beside the room, heard the cries of his husband and rushed to the room to find his husband lying in a pool of blood. The local doctor was called in by the neighbours who pronounced the sexagenarian dead. Some of the close relatives of the family, however, said that Arnab was suffering from some mental disorder and was also undergoing medication.
"Primarily it appears that Arnab killed his father in a fit of rage. We have detained the youth," a police officer of Panchasayar police station said.
Officers of the anti-homicide wing of the detective department and forensic officials visited the spot and collected some evidences.
