'Save Green Stay Clean' key to lessen pollution, says CM

Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday stressed on the implementation of the 'Save Green Stay Clean' project to prevent environmental pollution, on the occasion of National Pollution Prevention Day.

Banerjee tweeted in this connection: "Today is #NationalPollutionPreventionDay. Let us strive to 'Save Green, Stay Clean'. Our Govt in #Bangla is stressing on e-buses and ferries as modes of transport to reduce air pollution. We've also launched a programme to spray water mixed with chemicals to suppress dust on roads."

Saumitra Mohan, commissioner of the School Education department, held a meeting with the representatives of 22 schools and discussed about how parking of vehicles outside school premises can be managed to prevent environmental pollution.

Meanwhile, the city police have proposed that the students of well-known schools should come either by school bus or pool-car instead of private vehicles, as traffic jams around the big schools in the morning and afternoon cause environmental pollution.

The schools have come up with suggestions on parking of vehicles outside the school premises, which the School Education department will study before issuing an order.

Meanwhile, the doctors at KMC's urban primary health centres are teaching techniques to the patients on how inhalers can be best used.

The Kolkata Municipal Corporation is giving inhalers with spacer devices free of cost to those suffering from breathing difficulties, which go up due to pollution. KMC has also decided to sprinkle water mixed with chemicals around the city to control dust.

In New Town, the roadside trees are being watered daily and more saplings have been planted to increase the green cover. The residents of private housing complexes have been encouraged to plant saplings and those maintaining them properly are being awarded.
