Robbers tie up BDO, wife; decamp after looting house

Kolkata: A WBCS officer was robbed on the wee hours of Friday at Habra in North 24-Parganas. Robbers tied up the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Habra 1 block Subhra Nandi and his wife and ransacked their house.

According to sources, on Friday at around 3 am, 4-5 miscreants entered the bunglow of the BDO by breaking the lock in the back portion of the house. When Nandi and his wife woke up, they saw the miscreants inside their bunglow.

The robbers threatened to kill them and tied their hands, legs and mouths. Following that, the miscreants asked Nandi for the key to the almirah which he gave them.

Later, the robbers took away gold jewellery, Rs 10,000 in cash and the mobile phones of Nandi and his wife. Nandi stated that the miscreants were wearing black masks. The entire operation took almost an hour to complete.

After the miscreants left, Nandi somehow managed to untie himself and untied his wife as well. Following that, he called up Habra police station and informed about the robbery.

On Friday morning, senior police officials visited the BDO's bunglow and talked with Nandi and his wife.

Sources informed that Nandi has informed the matter to the District Magistrate (DM) of North 24-Parganas Chaitali Chakraborty. It has been alleged that since the past few months, several robberies have taken place in Habra, Ashoknagar and Deganga area. But till date, none of the cases have been solved and police have failed to nab any of the culprits. Approximately three days ago, a similar robbery took place at Prafullanagar in Ashoknagar. Police suspect that the same criminals have robbed Nandi. During investigation, they collected some CCTV footages and are scrutinising them. Nandi also informed police that the robbers were talking in Hindi, but not all of them were fluent. Cops suspect that some of the robbers are from outside the state.
