Police submit chargesheet against Raghiv and Arsalan Parvez

Kolkata: Kolkata Police has accused Raghiv Parvez for culpable homicide and Arsalan Parvez for manipulating evidences. On Wednesday, police submitted the chargesheet at the Bankshall Court within 32 days of the incident.

According to sources, late on August 16 night, a Jaguar which was driven by Raghiv hit a Mercedes sedan at a high speed at the crossing of Shakespeare Sarani and Loudon Street. Raghib was going towards Kala Mandir from Birla Planetarium while the Mercedes was travelling towards Minto Park via Loudon Street. After the hit, the said Mercedes flung on a Kolkata Police traffic post which eventually collapsed on Bangladeshi nationals identified as Kazi Mohammad Mainul Alam (36), of Jhenaidah and Farhana Islam Tania (28), a resident of Muhammadpur at Dhaka in Bangladesh. Mainul worked with a rural bank while Tania was assistant vice-president of a private bank based in Bangladesh.

Following the accident, the police traced the owner of the offending Jaguar and found that the car was registered in the name of a renowned food chain. Later, the police arrested Arsalan Parvez, who was produced by his family members claiming that he was driving the car. But during investigation police found several ambiguities in Arsalan's statement and found that he was not driving the car. Later, from the information of Jaguar's Event Data Recorder (EDR) it was found that Arsalan's elder brother Raghiv was driving the car who had already fled to Dubai.

After a few days when he came back, the police arrested Raghiv. Investigators also came to know Hamza, uncle of Raghiv Parvez and Arsalan Parvez, helped Raghiv to flee after a day of the incident. Later Hamza was also arrested. During investigation, the police also found that there was another person in the car at the time of accident, who had also fled the spot immediately.

Later, the police traced the second person who is a friend of Raghiv and questioned him. After examining the only eyewitness and other substantial evidences investigators were sure that at the time of accident Raghiv was driving the car at a high speed.

On Wednesday, the police filed the charge-sheet accusing Raghiv for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, attempt to commit culpable homicide whereas Arsalan has been booked for causing disappearance of evidences.

Hamza has been accused of causing disappearance of evidences and charges of harbouring offender.
