Police complaint against WBSE employees

Kolkata: A complaint has been lodged against two employees of West Bengal Secondary Education (WBSE) for allegedly misappropriating Rs 26 lakh. On Thursday, the Secretary-in-Charge and the Deputy Secretary of WBSE, Paromita Roy lodged a complaint at the Bidhannagar East police station.

According to the complaint, during the month of October, WBSE officials found that a huge sum of money was missing in the bank account of the board.

During internal investigation, WBSE officials found that a person identified, as Sindhu Kanjilal, a contractual employee of the board, deposited money in the bank. However, Kanjilal did not deposited the full amount in the account of WBSE in the State Bank Of India's branch where the board has its account.

Kanjilal allegedly tampered the passbooks and other documents to hide his crime. Also a regular employee of WBSE identified as Abdul Munir, who was the cashier of WBSE, overlooked the irregularities while updating the cash book. Kanjilal was assigned to the cash section since 2011. On October 25, he was transferred to another department and the duty to deposit money was handed over to another employee identified as Arun Kumar Ghosh. He was the first to identify the irregularity and reported it to his superiors.

Later, WBSE officials questioned Kanjilal and Munir regarding the misappropriation but they failed to provide satisfactory answers. Later Roy lodged a complaint against the duo and a case has been initiated on charges of criminal breach of trust by clerk or servant.
