Police arrest three notorious criminals, seize huge cache of arms in Chinsurah

Kolkata: Chandannagar Police Commissionerate seized a huge quantity of arms and arrested three notorious miscreants late on Saturday night from Farm Side area in Chinsurah. The trio was accused in several cases such as murder and extortion. At least 10 more criminals of the same gang are still on the run.

According to sources, the trio identified as Toton Biswas, Kishor Biswas alias Lebu and Prabir Mondal had gathered at a place near Farm Side area in Chinsurah. At night, police got a tip about their presence.

Immediately, a special team raided the place and nabbed them. During search, police were stunned to see that they were carrying 11 pistols and a carbine along with 36 rounds of ammunition.

Police claimed that last month, Toton and his gang members had gathered to celebrate one of their member's birthday. When police raided a place at Rabindranagar in Chinsurah on the basis of information, the miscreants fled after firing at the police team. Toton and his associates are accused of murder, attempt to murder, extortion and other criminal activities.

Since then, police were trying to gather information about Toton and his gang in order to arrest them. According to K Kannan, Deputy Commissioner, Chandannagar, Toton had created panic in the area by threatening the businessmen of Chinsurah.

"Several more of his gang members are yet to be nabbed. Searches are on to trace them. We are also investigating how and from where he procured so many arms," said Kannan.
