Now, get 6 chicken cutlets at just Rs 120!

One can hardly find a person who is not pot--bellied in Bengal but before you associate the same with the clichéd misconception of them being habitual laggards, do not forget to identify Bengal's penchant for gluttony. And there is a good news for all those foody buddies who savour meat like nothing else in the world. But first, find a bench or a chair near you to sit and make sure you do not fall off because now, in Kolkata, you can get six fat chicken cutlets for just Rs 120!

The West Bengal Livestock Development Corporation Limited, a Bengal government undertaking, has recently started selling chicken cutlets that come six in number, in a 300 gram packet.

Bengalis, being the habitual connoisseurs of good food, have already loved this product, after minister of state, Animal Resource Development (ARD), Sawpan Debnath, flagged off the sale at recently concluded Poultry Fair in Kolkata.

The buyers are bagging several packets, that come at with amazingly cheap price tag from the Livestock Development Corporation's 192 outlets across the state.
With the growing demand of the product, the Livestock Development Corporation is mulling to launch the second variety – a 500 gram packet which would contain 10 such pieces of cutlet costing Rs 210.

"The product has received a good response from the buyers. People came to us, said that the taste is wonderful. Most importantly, the buyers said that they could feel a thick piece of meat inside which is absent in products made at other places. On top of that, the buyers also complimented about the quality of the meat being very soft," said Gouri Shankar Koner, Managing Director, West Bengal Livestock Development Corporation Limited.

Koner also informed that the cutlets are ready to eat but need to be just deep fried before serving.

However, the popularity of the products in West Bengal Livestock Development Corporation Limited is increasing by the day. The state-run company generally sells frozen meat of two types – dressed and processed.

The dressed meat are raw and need to be separately cooked. But the processed ones are marinated in spices and are ready to fry.

Koner also said that the meat products are processed in Haringhata in Nadia.

The available products in the outlets are chicken, black goat, pork, non-conventional meat and non-meat products. In the processed meat section, boneless chicken, keema, drumsticks, lollipop, wings, leg pieces etc are sold.

Meat of Bengal's black goat, pork are also sold in dressed and processed forms. In the non-conventional meat section, dressed cockerel, pekin, dressed duck meat, turkey, lamb meat, chevon, quail, vanraja desi chicken are also available at pocket-friendly prices. In the non-meat section, quail's egg, honey, ghee and mustard oil are also available.

"The processed chicken nuggets and popcorns are the most selling products in out outlets. Salami, chicken cocktail sausage, ham are also popular," Koner added.
