Now, book OPDs at the click of a mouse

Kolkata: The state health department is all set to introduce online booking for the patients visiting various Outpatient Departments (OPDs) of the medical college and hospitals in the city.

The system has been introduced at the SSKM Hospital on an experimental basis while other medical colleges would soon replicate the model.

One of the main objectives of the initiative is to reduce the long queues of patients which are often seen outside the OPDs at all the government hospitals.

Once the system is introduced in all the hospitals, the patients will be able to receive a hassle-free treatment.

It may be mentioned that a number of patients from various parts of the state start congregating outside various OPDs at the SSKM from early in the morning.

As a result of this there is always a long queue. The patients have to stand in the queue for long time before finally getting a chance to consult a doctor. This is a common scenario in all other medical colleges in the city.

To solve the issue the health department has come up with the online OPD booking system in the SSKM Hospital which will be immensely beneficial for the patients. The method would be soon introduced in all the other medical colleges as well.

The patients who want to visit a doctor in a particular department of the hospital need to visit the health department's website —www.wbhealth.gov.in. In the website, they will get an icon that

reads 'E-Governance' on the left column of the page.

The patients have to hit the button which will take them to another page that says 'OPD ticket booking'.

As soon as the patients click the icon, the page will ask for the mobile numbers of the patients.

When the patients will enter their mobile numbers and go ahead a onetime password (OTP) will be generated on their mobile number.

With the help of the OTP number the patients have to fill up a form by providing the details including the name, age, address of the patient.

They will also have to provide the ration card number. The patients will get to know the details of the doctors in the OPDs and when they are available.

It was also learnt that the patients can book their ticket seven days prior to their date of visit. The patients have to get a printed version of the ticket once they successfully complete the process.

During their hospital visit the patients have to submit the printed version of the ticket at the designated counters at the hospital. The patients will be able to visit the doctors without standing in the queue.
