No repentance, says JU student accused of pulling Babul's hair

Kolkata: Debanjanballav Chattopadhyay, who had allegedly heckled Babul Supriyo, Union minister of state for Forest inside Jadavpur University campus on Thursday, said that he does not repent for his action adding that he had to do it in self-defense.

Talking to newsmen, Chattopadhyay, who is a member of USDF, alleged that he does not remember whether he had pulled Supriyo's hair and the BJP's IT cell had distorted the picture.

"I really do not remember whether I had pulled his hair and the IT cell has distorted the picture," he said, adding that the minister had used filthy language and beat up some students.

He categorically said his mother did not tender any apology on his behalf and alleged that some ABVP "goons" had visited his house in Burdwan and forced his mother to apologise on social media. Chattopadhyay's mother has been in poor health for quite some time.

"They are threatening my family members and doing politics over my mother's illness. I have not conceded defeat. They have opened a fake Facebook profile using my name where they showed that I am repenting my action and suffering from a feeling of guilt," he added.

It may be recalled that after the incident took place in Jadavpur University, a photo became viral on social media showing Debanjan tendering apology for his misdeed. Later, Supriyo shared the screenshot of the post on his Twitter handle. The students' union has raised question over the genuineness of the post.
