Primary school student in Siliguri beaten up by headmaster

A headmaster of a primary school has been accused of beating up a student and causing serious injury to the boy's hands.

Guardians of the students at Siliguri Primary School staged a demonstration in front of the school building on Thursday, protesting against the incident.

They demanded action to be taken against the accused headmaster, whose corporal punishment to the boy resulted in serious injury on his finger.

It was learnt that the student was reportedly creating trouble and shouting when the headmaster of the school, Sushil Chakraborty was passing by the boy's classroom.

The incident infuriated Chakraborty so much that he brought a stick and beat up the young student, resulting in the boy's finger being seriously injured.

The victim's family members alleged that the headmaster also kicked their son. They said that the headmaster has no right to beat a child in this manner and demanded strict action against him.

The accused headmaster, meanwhile, claimed that it was not intentional. He said it is not easy to tackle with more than 600 students and admitted that he hit the boy so as to maintain calm during the class.

In another incident, a Class X student of a school in Datan area of West Midnapore district alleged that a teacher from her school molested her inside the school campus.

On the basis of the complaint lodged by the student, police have arrested the accused teacher. After returning home, the victim told her family members about the incident. She said that the arithmetic teacher in her school called her to a room and then molested her.

Family members of the victim lodged a complaint with the school authorities but no steps were immediately taken. As a result, the girl's family lodged a complaint at the local police station, on the basis of which police arrested the accused teacher.
