New Town: Cops look away as loud music blares at night

Kolkata: A resident of New Town alleged that despite seeking police intervention against playing loud music, a few people continued playing music above the permissible limits inconveniencing residents of the area with no police action against them.

According to the resident, on Tuesday night, a group of people, who were preparing for Viswakarma Puja late on Tuesday night near Pyachar More in Action Area 2B, were playing loud music. It started around 12 am and continued till almost 2:15 am. On Tuesday afternoon, the said people were playing loud music to which a few local residents objected. Though they stopped playing the music then, but it resumed in the night.

The resident called up police personnel of New Town police station, who assured that soon a police patrolling car will intervene. However, after almost an hour no police intervention was seen. Later, he called up the police control room by dialing 100 and reported the matter.

It is alleged that the police personnel who had received the call primarily asked the resident to call up New Town police station and report the incident. However, later he stated that he will inform and also noted down the caller's name and mobile number. But, no police intervention was seen. However, the loud music stopped sometimes around 2:15 am. On Wednesday, said resident met the Commissioner of Police (CP), Bidhannagar, Lakshmi Narayan Meena and narrated the incident. After hearing the matter, CP assured him that the matter will be looked into.

Sources claimed that there are only two patrolling cars engaged for whole New Town. On Tuesday night, one car was detained in the drunken driving check at New Town bus stand and the other one was sent to Hatiara. Question arose if any situation serious than playing loud music occurs, then how a person in distress can get help from the police.
