MBA student's body found at city hotel room

Kolkata: Body of an MBA student was found inside a room of a city hotel in Kolkata late on Friday night. The deceased was identified as Harsha Bhala from Gujarat. He had checked-in at the hotel on Thursday morning.

According to the staff members, Bhala hired Room No. 1407 — a deluxe room. No one from the hotel saw Bhala once he went in to his room. The staff members, suspecting something untoward, informed the higher authorities about the development and later around 2:30 am, after repeated knocks which went unheard, the door was opened using the master key. The toilet was found locked from inside. The staff members broke open the door and found Bhala lying unconscious under the running shower.

A deep wound was found on his throat and a knife lay beside Bhala. Immediately, New Market Police Station was informed. Sleuths reached the hotel and sent Bhala to the Calcutta Medical College Hospital where he was declared dead.

Police informed that Bhala was a student studying MBA from an institute in Jamshedpur. He was originally from Rajkot in Gujarat. Sleuths suspect that he might have committed suicide as the room and the toilet door were locked from inside. But police are checking with CCTV footage of the hotel. On Saturday morning, the forensic personnel and sleuths from homicide section of the Detective Department visited the spot. Bhala's family has been informed.
