Mayor holds meeting to resolve waterlogging issues

Kolkata: Mayor Firhad Hakim oozed confidence after holding a meeting regarding addressing the problem of waterlogging in some pockets of Central Kolkata in and around the stretch from Moulali along APC Road.

"We had already made a big scheme involving Rs 192 crore for comprehensive desilting of the brick sewerage line to be carried out under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme. The project has not been sanctioned as yet but we are hopeful that we will soon receive the same and by next year, the work will be executed," said Hakim after holding a meeting to address issues of Borough VI of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation.

The Mayor has instructed his officials to carry out desilting from time to time so that there is no major problem of waterlogging along the stretch in case of rain. Interestingly, the meeting of Borough VI was held in the KMC building on SN Banerjee Road with the address falling under the same borough.

"We have decided to transfer a land belonging to the Kolkata Improvement Trust (KIT) located at ward 61 in Elliot Lane to the state Education department for setting up a school in the name of late Sultan Ahmed. The school will have classes till class VIII and will gradually have facilities of higher classes," he added.

A decision has been taken by the civic body to come up with a dialysis unit at 30, Girish Chandra Bose Road in PPP model. "This will come up beside one of our health units which is lying closed," Hakim added.
