Madhyamik examinee ends life in Howrah's Dasnagar

A Madhyamik examination candidate committed suicide on Monday at Howrah's Dasnagar. His body was found hanging from the ceiling fan at his residence at Dasnagar's P Road.

Police learnt that Raj Rakshit (15), a local school student was a bright student and his suicide, just before the start of the Madhyamik examinations, surprised the investigating officers. The investigators suspected that Raj's preparation for the examination might not have been sufficient which could have lead to the suicide. However, the family members of Raj were also shocked. They could not find any reason behind this incident. "He used to tell me that the preparation was not up to the mark. He was looking frustrated. We tried our best to encourage him," said bereaved mother Dipali Rakshit. "His name appeared in the first list of the test examination. But he was not happy with his performance.

We tried a lot to encourage him. But we did not imagine that he would take this ultimate step," said Dipali.

Police took Raj's body for post-mortem. The investigators learnt that the boy was sleeping in his room. Later, the family members saw his body was hanging from the ceiling fan.

It may be mentioned that in January this year, a Class XII student committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling of a room in his house at Paschim Putiari after failing to tolerate "mental torture" allegedly by one his school's teacher as he had not taken private tuition from him. The victim Samprit Banerjee had given a Facebook post saying "Good Bye…" before committing suicide.

A senior police officer said that they are looking into the allegation brought against the teacher by the victim's family members and friends. At the same time they have also received information that the boy was also being scolded by his parents for failing to perform well in the final examination of Class XI.
