Local resident shot at, 2 in cop net

Kolkata: Two persons have been arrested by the officers of Tiljala police station for allegedly firing a bullet at a local resident on the Tiljala Road early on Sunday morning.

According to sources, on the wee hours on Sunday, around 3 am, Pinki Roy of 55 Tiljala Road near Tarikhana had got involved in an altercation with a woman of the locality. While the altercation was at the top, husband of the woman identified as Jibat Rai arrived there and tried to attack Pinki.

When Pinki's husband identified as Bijoy Roy tried to save her, he was allegedly beaten up by Jibat. Following the incident, Jibat allegedly threw glass bottles aiming at Roy's balcony. Several glass panes on the windows were broken after being hit by the bottles.

After a while he left the spot threatening the Roy family with dire consequences.

It is alleged that after some time he came back with his brother Binod and fired a bullet aiming at Roy's apartment.

Tiljala police station was immediately informed. After firing the shot, Jibat and Binod left the scene.

Later, the police arrived at the spot and seized a bullet head from Roy's flat.

After members of the Roy family told about the incident to sleuths, they started looking for the accused duo. Meanwhile, Pinki had lodged a complaint against the Rai brothers alleging that they had planned to kill her.

Local sources informed that there was a personal enmity between the Rai and Roy family. Sleuths came to know that before the firing incident a had brawl taken place.

It is suspected that an old rivalry was the only reason behind the firing incident. Later, sleuths nabbed Jibat and Binod from Tiljala.

The arms, which were used in crime, has also been recovered. Both of them has been booked under IPC

sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 34 (acts done by

several persons in furtherance of common intention) along with sections 25 (whoever manufactures, sells, transfers, converts, repairs, tests or proves, or exposes or

offers for sale or transfer, or

has in his possession for sale, transfer, conversion, repair,

test or proof, any arms or ammunition) and 27 (punishment for using arms) of the Arms Act.
