Kolkata Police bring Amalendu Chatterjee on transit remand

Kolkata: Kolkata Police brought arrested RSS leader Amalendu Chatterjee in Kolkata on transit remand, late on Saturday night. He was arrested in Delhi on the charges of alleged molestation and rape after promising to marry a woman BJP worker of Bengal.

Chatterjee was arrested from Deshbandhunagar area under Karol Bagh police station on September 17. Following the arrest, he was produced before the Tis Hazari Court. But due to Chatterjee complaining about chest pain, the court ordered the Kolkata Police team to admit him in a state-run hospital there.

After Chatterjee felt better, police again submitted a request for transit remand three days ago. After the remand was granted, Chatterjee was brought back to Kolkata by flight on Saturday night. ]He was produced before the Alipore Court on Sunday and remanded to police custody till September 27.

Chatterjee is a leader of the state RSS unit and an all India Pracharak of the party. Along with Chatterjee, allegations of lewd comments and attempt to molest and rape have been made against Dilip Ghosh, state BJP president, Shivprakash, the party's all India leader and Subrata Chatterjee and Bidyut Mukherjee, secretaries of the state unit of BJP. The woman had made a complaint with the Behala women police station on August 31.

In the FIR, she alleged that taking advantage of her past acquaintance, Chatterjee made advances and she had to terminate pregnancy thrice. From 2014, Chatterjee started visiting her flat and they attended many meetings organised by BJP and RSS in different parts of Bengal and India. Chatterjee also developed a very good relation with her son.
