Kolkata, Bidhannagar Police keep successful vigil to ensure trouble-free Dol Jatra and Holi

Kolkata: Kolkata and Bidhannagar Police have successfully maintained the law and order situation across the city, leading to trouble-free celebration for city residents. During Dol Jatra on Thursday and Holi on Friday, a total of 174 persons have been arrested by Kolkata police for alleged disorderly conduct.

According to sources, as per the arrangement there were 709 police pickets set up on Thursday. All Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) and Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) of Kolkata Police were kept on supervising duty throughout the day.

Also multiple mobile patrolling vans in each division and Quick Response Team (QRT) and Heavy Radio Flying Squad (HRFS) vans were there in strategic points across the city.

Apart from law and order, special anti-crime teams were also deployed to prevent any untoward incident across the city. The women team of Kolkata Police, popularly known as 'The Winners', was also found on duty on Thursday and Friday.

Sources informed that the number of complaints has come down compared to the previous years. The maximum number of arrests were made from the East Division of Kolkata Police.

Apart from law and order and crime, traffic police personnel were also there to prevent drunken driving, over speeding, rash driving and other traffic norm violations.

On Thursday, 711 persons were prosecuted for riding bikes without wearing helmets. 11 persons were arrested and later bailed out for driving in drunken condition. On Friday, 699 bike riders were prosecuted for not wearing helmets, while 39 drivers have been arrested and later bailed out after prosecution for allegedly driving in drunken condition.

Apart from Kolkata Police, Bidhannagar Police has also successfully managed to keep the law and order situation under control and prevent crimes on Thursday.

During special drives and naka checking, 198 persons were arrested under several sections of IPC for allegedly creating nuisance, disorderly conduct and disobeying orders by the police. 76 persons were arrested and later bailed out for driving in drunken condition.
