Mamata felicitates Santhali highest scorer Uday Murmu

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday felicitated Uday Murmu who stood first in Santhali language in this year's Madhyamik examination. The function was held at Uttirnno.

Uday, whose parents work as daily wage labourers, aspires to become a state civil servant. He scored 86 percent marks in the aggregate. While handing over the gifts containing a flower bouquet, laptop and books, the Chief Minister said: "I am trying to learn Alchiki script. But it is very difficult." She blessed Uday and urged him to carry on with his studies seriously. Uday has two sisters who study in Classes IX and VII respectively.

A student of Ramakrishna Mission Vidyamandir Eklavya Model Residential School, Uday received coaching and encouragement from his two teachers — Nripen Tudu and Raju Murmu.

He is a resident of Binpur of Jhargram district.

It may be mentioned that Mamata Banerjee had requested the then general secretary of Ramakrishna Mission Swami Suhitanandaji (now one of the vice-presidents of the order) to take over the school and give proper coaching to the tribal students.
The school was earlier under the Backward Classes Welfare (BCW) department. The residential school which starts from Class VI has higher secondary section also. Swami Subhakarananda is the secretary of the institution.
The school has taken support from the teachers of Narendrapur Ramakrishna Mission to set up the laboratory and some of them have taken classes also.

The students took part in the recently held chess competition organised by the BCW department. They also joined the science fair held in Kolkata.

RKM has taken up a plan for all round development of the students. It proposes to set up an auditorium and coaching centre on a plot situated next to the school where the students will be coached on the preservation of their culture.
