Land for bus terminus identified in Bolpur

The Birbhum district administration has identified a land for the proposed bus terminus beside Biswa Bangla Viswavidyalaya in Bolpur. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee
had recently instructed the district administration to identify the land for the project.

Accordingly, the district administration demarcated a land measuring around 12 acre for the proposed bus terminus.

"We have identified the land for the bus terminus. The state Transport department will execute the project," the District Magistrate of Birbhum P Mohan Gandhi told Millennium Post on Tuesday.

The proposed bus terminus will improve the connectivity in and around the district and generate employment as well. The project cost will be around Rs 20 crore, sources in the district administration said.

It may be mentioned, that the work at Gitabitan township in Santiniketan began on Saturday. The township will come up on a 100 acre land and is situated close to the proposed Biswa Bangla Viswavidyalaya.

The university will be set up by the Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (HIDCO) with a financial assistance from the state Education department.

The Chief Minister had announced to set up the Biswa Bangla Viswavidyalaya in January, this year.

"The township and bus terminus is important for building the proper infrastructure for Biswa Bangla Viswavidyalaya. The valuation of this area will be changed in future," the source added.

Bolpur and Santiniketan are popular among Indian and overseas tourists. A huge number of tourists visit these places every year.

The new projects, which were taken up by government, will increase the footfall of tourists in the future, the district administration hopes.

The bus terminus will have many facilities for the passengers including a shopping mall, e-toilets, mobile-toilets and state-of-the-art passenger waiting rooms. The buses will travel to Kolkata and different district headquarters from the terminus.

The district administration will also urge the state Transport department to start bus routes to Bangladesh and Nepal from Bolpur in the future.
