Nabanna to host blood donation camp to mark 6 years of TMC rule

A blood donation camp will be organised in the state Secretariat Nabanna on May 27, said Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

To mark the completion of the sixth year of the Trinamool Congress government, the Chief Minister had directed the organisation of blood donation camps across the state with the target of collecting 50,000 units. The decision was taken to overcome the acute shortage of blood during summers. The step was taken considering the fact that one cannot give his fellow men a better gift than the donation of blood to save another's life.

After returning from Birbhum, where she headed the administrative review meeting on Monday, the Chief Minister went to Nabanna. After a meeting with the top brass, including Chief Secretary Basudeb Banerjee and Home Secretary Malay De, Banerjee went to do a recce of the spot where the blood donation camp is to be organised in Nabanna. At the same programme, the state government will be introducing 52 new ambulances.

State government employees will donate blood in the camp that will be organised in the state secretariat.

On May 20, 2011 Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and other ministers of her Cabinet had taken oath. After returning to power in 2016, the Chief Minister had taken oath on May 27. Thus, to mark the completion of the sixth year of the Mamata Banerjee government, it was decided that blood donation camps will be held in the state from May 20 to 27 this year.

Blood donation camps are being organised at different places both by members of the ruling party as well as by different civic bodies. The police are also organising blood donation camps with a target of collecting 20,000 of the total 50,000 units.

On the last day of the state-wide blood-collection programme, a camp will be organised at Nabanna. It was decided that camps in all other places would be organised between 8 pm and 11 pm as it would prove difficult to organise them during daytime in the scorching heat; however, the time of the blood donation camp at Nabanna is yet to be finalised.

The Mamata Banerjee government has changed the face of healthcare service in the state by taking several measures to ensure an overall development of the state-run establishments. Now, with the introduction of 52 ambulances, hundreds of people will be benefitted.

The state government has also organised a one-month-long programme from May 20 to June 20 to mark the completion of the sixth year of the government.

Tableaus displaying different development projects of the state governments are reaching the grassroot level in districts through this month-long initiative.
