Gatidhara to enable 10,000 more people to buy vehicles; generate self-employment

Around 10,000 people will be getting financial assistance to buy their own vehicles under Gatidhara scheme in 2017-18 fiscal.

The state Transport department will start the process of taking new applications by the middle of May.

According to an officer of the state transport department, this is the first time when around 10,000 people would get the benefits of Gatidhara scheme. In the past two financial years, a total of 13,700 people have received the benefits.

In 2015-16 and 2016-17 fiscals, around 5,200 and 8,500 people were brought under the scheme. The official said that the budget allocation for Gatidhara this fiscal is around Rs 94 crore. Gatidhara is one of the dream projects of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the step was taken to create opportunities for self-employment in the state.

The official further said that the process of taking new applications will begin from mid May and around 10,000 people could be brought under the scheme in the current financial year. Under the scheme, a person gets a financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh to buy a vehicle from the state government. Most people face difficulty in gathering the minimum amount of money that one has to pay to buy a car against bank loans.

Thus, the initiative of the state government helps them to give the minimum money to buy the car against a bank loan.

The state Transport department had set up as many as 1,300 centres across the state to help unemployed youth avail the Gatidhara scheme.

Officials were posted at these centres to help them avail the scheme. One can get all the necessary information about Gatidhara from these centres and at the same time, can also submit the application form.

One can also apply for the scheme at the Regional Transport Offices (RTOs). Moreover, officials from RTOs will be supervising the work at these centres. The officials and felicitators at these centres also help applicants by taking necessary steps for fast disbursement of the loan for their car.

The applicants of Gatidhara also receive help to get road permits and registration numbers of their vehicles without facing any problem.
