4 of family found dead, internal feud suspected

Mystery shrouds the death of four members of a family whose bodies were found hanging from bamboo structures of their tiled-roof house at Chanditala in Hooghly on Thursday morning.

Police said a member of the family found the bodies of Rabindranath Pandit (45), his wife Kalpana Pandit (37), son Sushovan (19) and daughter Sushmita (21) hanging from the ceiling of four separate rooms in their house.
The woman, who saw the bodies hanging and the doors of all the rooms ajar, rushed out of the house and started crying. Local people went to the spot hearing her cries. They informed the police.
Policemen from Chanditala police station sent the bodies for autopsies.

Though the police are yet to ascertain the exact reason behind theincident, the investigating officers suspect that family feud could be the reason behind it or a huge debt of Rabindranath had forced him to commit suicide after killing the three others. The police are waiting for the autopsy reports.

A police officer said that they found a note written in red ink on the right hand of Sushovan. It was clearly mentioned that Sushovan's cousin Ranjan was the reason behind all of their death.

Police detained Ranjan from his residence at Kumirmora area in Chanditala.

Police suspect that Ranjan had got engaged in a relationship with Sushmita and it could be the reason for which all
the members of the family had to die.

Police also suspect that the father hadkilled the three others and finally hanged himself to death. After killing all three of them, Rabindranath might have left the massage written on his son's hand.

Police took the statement of their neighbours and wanted to know whether they had ever seen Ranjan creating any disturbance for the family.

Brushing aside all allegations, Namita Pandit, Ranjan's mother, said that the allegations are false and her son was not involved in it at all. "He has been unnecessarily dragged into the case," she said.

The police have also come to know that Rabindranath was under a huge debt and it could be the reason for the incident. Police have spoken to the people from whom he had
taken loans.

Police wanted to know from them whether they had given any pressure on him to clear their dues. Senior police officers visited the spot and collected samples from the spot.
