Deaf and mute girl raped, two accused arrested

Tension ran high at Belda in West Midnapore after a deaf and mute girl on Thursday accused two persons of raping her.

Locals beat up the two accused before they were rescued by the police who arrested them on the basis of a complaint lodged by the victim's family.

Police said the victim, who is deaf and mute, communicated by writing her plight on a placard. She narrated the torture that was meted out to her by the two accused.

Police also added that the accused were non-teaching employees of a local school where the victim had been studying for the past few years.

The accused have been identified as Nakul Bera and Anup Dutta. Locals alleged that despite repeated complaints against the two accused, the school authorities have not taken any steps against them.

The accused had previously molested students as well but no action was taken against them. The victim on Thursday came out of her house with a placard stating how the two staff members of the school had committed the crime.

This infuriated the neighbours and they rushed to the school and drove the two accused out of its premises.

Police have started a probe in this regard on the basis of a complaint lodged by the family members of the victim.
