Jaguar was in 'racing' mode, reveals probe; Detective Dept takes over case

Kolkata: The Detective Department (DD) of Kolkata Police has taken over the investigation of Friday night's accident at the crossing of Shakespeare Sarani and Loudon Street.

On Sunday, senior Kolkata Police officials informed that DD personnel will visit the accident spot as soon as possible. Police are mulling to reconstruct the accident scene as well.

According to sources, the accused person identified as Arsalan Parvez was driving a Jaguar with 'Auto Gear Shift' technology in 'racing' mode, which should be avoided strictly while driving within city limits. While driving in

the city, drivers of such cars should use the 'driving' mode instead.

Apart from driving mode selection, the car was also equipped with a screen and alarm which usually get activated during 'racing' mode if any obstruction is located several kilometres ahead through Global Positioning System (GPS).

It is suspected that Parvez drove the car at high speed despite the alarm going off. However, as the screen got locked after the accident, investigators are waiting for officials from the car's manufacturer as only they can unlock the device.

On Monday, after taking over investigation of the case, DD officials inspected the car kept in front of Shakespeare Sarani police station. They suspect that the car might have been running at a speed between 100 and 120 kilometres per hour.

Parvez will be interrogated to know why he drove the car in such a reckless manner and about his whereabouts since he went out of his home. Police have already found that he had violated the traffic signals since he started driving on Friday night.
