IT employee found hanging from ceiling fan

Kolkata: Mystery shrouds the death of an IT employee who was found hanging from her first floor rented residence at Mahisgot area under New Town police station in the wee hours of Thursday. The victim Uttami Singh in her 20's who originally hails from Bihar was working in an IT firm based at Salt Lake Sector V.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was in a relationship with a person who was also employed with an IT company. The victim has been living on rent in the first floor of the apartment for the last four months.

"We have recovered a suicide note that has indicated that the youth with whom she had a relationship had ditched her. The youth has been detained for interrogation," an officer of New Town police station said. The police have recovered the cell phone of the victim and are scanning the call details.

The owner of the house had knocked the door of the victim on Thursday morning finding that she was not opening it. When nobody responded, he called the neighbours who broke open the door to find her hanging from the ceiling fan with a dupatta.

Police sources said that Uttami had made a late night call to her lover following which the incident happened. The family members of the victim who were informed by the police reached the city in the evening.

"We are not too sure about how it happened. She had never complained to us about anything," her father said.
