Girl attacked with acid by masked men in Kgp

In another incident of acid attack, a girl from Malancha area of Kharagpur received serious burn injuries and is undergoing treatment at a hospital.
According to a preliminary investigation, police suspect that a local youth might have hurled acid at the victim after being jilted in love. The victim had developed a relationship with the local youth a few months ago.

It continued smoothly for nearly 4-5 months. After realising that the youth had been involved in various anti-social activities, the girl decided to call off the relationship.
Hence, she told the accused that she was no longer interested to continue withe the relationship. This infuriated the accused. Since then, he has been abusing the girl. Police are yet to confirm if this youth was involved behind the attack.

The family members of the victim told police that the girl was returning home from one of her friend's place at around 9.30 pm on Sunday when a few youth attacked her with their faces covered. The accused was waiting on the road at Malancha and stopped her while she was on her way.

On seeing the accused taking out a bottle full of acid, the victim tried to flee from the spot and then, the accused chased her.
They finally got hold of the girl and hurled acid at her. After hearing the screams of the girl, the local residents came to her rescue and found her wreathing in pain. All the three accused, meanwhile, fled from the spot.

The local residents rushed the victim to a nearby health centre and told police that the accused came with their faces covered.

The family members of the victim told police that the youth with whom the girl had a relationship might have been involved in the incident as he threatened the victim of dire consequences after she discontinued the relationship.

Police are yet to ascertain if her former boyfriend was involved as the victim could not recognise the accused because of his face being covered. Police have started a probe in this connection.
