First batch of West Bengal Police don white uniform

Kolkata: Bringing an end to the history of an era, a section of policemen posted at commissionerates under West Bengal Police have got their new set of white uniform, replacing the traditional khaki garb.

Monday was the first time when policemen were found performing their duty in white uniform. The policemen, from the rank of constable to inspector, who are posted in police stations and traffic section of the Howrah Police Commissionerate, put on their new uniform from Monday.

It may be recalled that a proposal was floated to change the colour of uniform from khaki to white for police personnel in the rank of constable to inspector in police commissionerates in the state and accordingly, all steps were taken to change the colour of the uniform. The uniform of Kolkata Police is already white.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had recently said in a police programme that there is a need to bring a change in the uniform of West Bengal Police as they need to look smart.
