Federal Front likely to gain momentum after CM's clarion call

Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is scheduled to visit Delhi on July 31. This will be the first visit of Banerjee to the capital after she gave a clarion call "to oust BJP to save the country" from the dais of the July 21 Martyrs' Day rally and announced that a mammoth rally will be organised on January 19 in 2019, where she will request all Federal Front leaders to address.

During her visit to Delhi, Banerjee is scheduled to give a lecture on "Idea of India" in St Stephens College on August 1 and everyone is waiting for the moment to listen to the Chief Minister. Apart from her scheduled programme, she is also likely to meet leaders of the anti-BJP political parties during her stay in the capital.

The visit of the Chief Minister to Delhi has turned significant as she is leaving no stones unturned to defeat BJP in the 2019 general elections.

It may be stated that Banerjee, who was first in criticising the anti-people moves of BJP in many cases, has given the call for one-to-one fight against the party in power at the Centre in the forthcoming general elections in 2019.

In a bid to make this happen, she has announced a mammoth rally at Brigade Parade ground on January 19 in 2019, after stating: "We do not care for the chair but we are more concerned for the people of this land. We will show the way to Parliament."

It may be recalled that the meeting between Banerjee and her counterpart from Telangana, K Chandrasekhar Rao, at Nabanna on March 19 had marked the beginning of the Federal Front. Subsequently, she had also met NCP chief Sharad Pawar and leaders of regional political parties, considering the significance of unifying anti-BJP parties to bring a change of guard in the country.

More significantly, Banerjee met UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi during her visit to Delhi in March. She had then told Gandhi that "BJP should be politically finished from the country."

It has been learnt that Banerjee will also be inviting Gandhi to the January 19 rally, as she wants Congress to be a strong part of the united front to fight against BJP.

Sources said that discussions between leaders of different anti-BJP political parties and Banerjee are also likely to take place during her visit to Delhi. The preliminary discussions with the Federal Front leaders about the January 19 rally might also take place during her trip to the capital.
