Event to create awareness on saving water in Balurghat

BALURGHAT: Save Water Day was observed in all eight blocks of South Dinajpur on Friday.

Inaugurating an event in Balurghat, District Magistrate Nikhil Nirmal said: "The world is under great threat due to scarcity of water. Through this event we aim to deliver the message in every nook and corner of the state."

"We are aware of the fact that only three percent of Earth's water can be used for drinking while the rest of 97 percent of water is covered by the ocean in earth. Water is precious and it should be saved by us at any cost," he said.

A colourful rally was organised with Kanyashree students of different schools. Various Self Help Group (SHG) members along with people from all sections of the society took part in it. Pamphlets were distributed and people were made aware of the importance of water conservation. Tableaus were also taken out from block levels covering Hili, Gangarampur, Banshihari, Tapan, Kumarganj, Kushmandi, Harirampur apart from Balurghat.

Additional District Magistrate Pranab Kumar Ghosh, ADM (Gen) Krittibas Nayak, ADM (Dev) Ranjan Kumar Jha and Sub-Divisional Officer of Balurghat Sadar Isha Mukherjee along with other guests and dignitaries took part in the event.
