Eight injured after car collides with motorcycle

Kolkata: Around eight persons were injured, some of them critically, after a head on collision between a car and a motorcycle.
The incident took place on Haldia-Mecheda road early on Sunday morning. Police said that three persons were riding a motorcycle when a car coming from opposite direction rammed into it. Three riders have been identified as Sovanlal Bera (25), Swarup Maiti (20) and Suman Bera (21). All the victims received critical injuries as they were not wearing helmets at the time of the accident. Five persons who were travelling in the car were also injured in the incident.
The local residents heard a loud crash noise and rushed to the spot to find the three bikers lying on the road with multiple injuries on their bodies. They were rushed to Tamluk district hospital after the accident where Sovanlal and Swarup were undergoing treatment, while Suman was shifted to a city hospital as his condition deteriorated. The five persons who were travelling in the car were released from the Tamluk district hospital after primary treatment.
After being informed, police reached the spot and recovered the bike which is badly damaged due to the accident. Police said that the car was running at high speed when the driver lost control over the vehicle and hit the motorcycle. The incident disrupted the traffic movement in the area for some time. Police have started a detailed probe into the incident.
Following the accident, some of the local residents in the area protested against rash driving of the vehicles on the road. They alleged that accidents often take place as the vehicle flout the traffic norms. The drivers over-speed their vehicles which results in accidents. The local residents told the police that the driver lost control over the vehicle as it was at a top speed. As a result of this the front portion of the car was also damaged due to impact of the accident.
