Doc lodges complaint over fake news of him testing positive

Kolkata: A doctor has lodged a police complaint in connection with a malicious campaign on social media platforms of him being infected with Coronavirus.

The complainant, Dr Mushtaque Ahmed who is a resident of Bright Street, alleged that fake message and an audio mentioning that he has been infected with COVID- 19 is viral on Whatsapp and Facebook. He lodged a complaint with the Karaya Police station on March 28. "I, Dr Mushtaque Ahmed, son of late Arshad Ali residing at 9, Bright Street, hereby bring to your notice that some unknown miscreants are running a false malicious campaign on various social platforms that I have been infected with COVID-19. I want to make it clear that I am absolutely healthy and have been restricted to my residence honouring the lockdown imposed by the government. Not only is this affecting my peace of mind but is also creating panic amongst masses. Kindly do the needful," pointed out the police complaint.

The audio doing the rounds on Whatsapp says that avoid going to Bright Street area as Dr Mushtaque Ahmed has been tested positive for Coronavirus after a patient having symptoms of high fever returned from Canada visited him. It further pointed out that the doctor's family has been kept in isolation and his chamber has been sealed by police.

However, the doctor clarified that he shut his chamber to maintain social distancing.

"Since a huge number of children and parents come to my clinic for treatment, it was difficult for me to maintain social distancing of patients that is why I closed my chamber," Ahmed said.
