Crush BJP like you would stamp out a cobra: Abhishek

Kolkata: Coming down heavily on the BJP, Abhishek Banerjee, Trinamool Youth Congress president and party's MP, alleged that the saffron party is trying to bring back "kala din" in Bengal.

He was addressing a gathering of party workers who had assembled to mourn the brutal killing of Pintu Sinha by miscreants on Wednesday morning.

"What do you do to a cobra? A similar kind of treatment is required for BJP politically in Bengal," he said. He alleged that the miscreants from Jharkhand were brought to Purulia to organise the murder. "BJP is trying to destabilise the rural areas in Bengal just to stall development," he said.

He added that in the past seven years, massive development has taken place in the state because of the positive steps taken up by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. "The acute drinking water problem in Purulia has been addressed and all the villages will get tap water soon. Special measures are taken before the scorching summer to provide drinking water to the locals. "There are super-specialty hospitals all over Bengal where the rural folk are getting best of treatment free of cost. New schools and colleges have been constructed and there is not a single house in Purulia that has not got benefits of the schemes taken by the Bengal government," he said, adding: "Unable to counter the Trinamool Congress politically, BJP is trying to scare people by organising murders."

On early Wednesday morning when Pintu was busy with a local Kali Puja, the miscreants pumped bullet from a point-blank range. The locals took him to the primary health centre and later at Deben Mahato Hospital from where he was referred to SSKM Hospital. Sinha died at SSKM on Thursday night.

Abhishek spoke to the bereaved family members including Sinha's mother, elder brother and nephew and gave them money as financial assistance.
