Commuters face tough time as door of rake fails to close at Maidan Stn

Kolkata: Passengers of Kolkata Metro faced difficulties on Friday after one of the doors of a Kavi Subhash bound non-AC rake failed to close at Maidan station.

According to sources, the incident took place after 9.30 am and normal services resumed after 10-15 minutes. Passengers were evacuated from the rake following the technical glitch.

According to Kolkata Metro Railway chief public relations officer Indrani Banerjee, a non-AC rake going towards Kavi Subhas had to be evacuated at Maidan station at 9.52 am, as one of the doors of the second coach (from the driving motorman's end) was not closing. The train left at 10.10 am from the station.

Metro Railway officials soon reached the spot and fixed the problem, after which they mechanically closed the door. Following the incident, Metro officials at every station were seen keeping track of the doors of the rakes, to check whether they were properly closed or not.

It may be recalled that on August 21, a packed Kolkata Metro rake ran from Dum Dum to Kavi Subhas with one of its doors ajar. Immediately, an announcement was made and RPF personnel were deployed to guard the passengers.

At present, there are 284 services including Up and Down trains between Dum Dum and Kavi Subhas stations, while the number of services between Dum Dum and Noapara has been increased to 107 from 104.
