CM plans academic fest to showcase achievements of state universities

Kolkata: The state Higher Education department will organise an academic fest to showcase the excellence of various universities in the state. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee held a meeting with Vice-Chancellors of the state universities at Nabanna on Tuesday and formed a committee comprising V-Cs of some universities and officials of the state Higher Education department which will take necessary measures to host such an event. Partha Chatterjee was also present at the meeting.

"The Chief Minister expressed her happiness over the universities of Bengal featuring among at the top in rankings done by global organisations. Calcutta University (CU) has recently topped among the state-run universities, followed by Jadavpur University (JU) in QS Indian Rankings 2020. So, the Chief Minister wants to showcase the progress in higher education in a befitting manner," a senior official of the Higher Education department who attended the meeting said.

The committee which will soon be notified by the Higher Education department will have Vice-Chancellors of Jadavpur University, Presidency University and Calcutta University and others. The dates for holding the fest will be decided by the committee.

It is learnt that the Chief Minister enquired about the functioning of the universities and the infrastructure from the V-Cs in Tuesday's meeting.
