Class XII girl commits suicide in Beniapukur

Kolkata: A class XII girl committed suicide after she had a fight with her mother, who protested against her over-indulgence in a mobile phone.

Tension gripped the locals after her body was found inside the house in Beniapukur.

It was learnt that the victim's elder brother gave her a mobile phone a few days ago. Ever since she got her hands on the phone, she used to remain addicted to the screen that affected her studies.

The victim stopped talking to her mother after she was rebuked nearly four days ago. But the family members never expected that she would take such a drastic step. A quarrel also broke out between the victim and her mother after the latter asked her not to stop using the mobile phone as it was having an adverse impact on her studies.

According to police, she confined herself to her room from Saturday morning. On Saturday afternoon, again an altercation broke out when the mother rebuked her.

In the evening, when the family members were away from home, the girl took advantage of the situation.

She locked herself within a room and committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling with a piece of cloth.

After returning home, the family members found the door locked from inside and the victim did not open the door despite repeated knocks on it. They reported the matter to the locals, who in turn informed the local police station. Police reached the house and broke open the door to find the victim hanging from the ceiling.

The body was sent for the post-mortem examination. Police are investigating into all possible angles that might have caused her death. No suicide note was, however, found from her room. Police are waiting for the post-mortem report.
