Chingrihata flyover to remain closed from Sept 6-9 for load capacity test

Kolkata: Chingrihata flyover will be closed from September 6 night to September 9 morning for load capacity test. During this period, vehicles availing Chingrihata flyover for New Town and Salt Lake will have to take a right turn from Beliaghata crossing.

Earlier last month, during the regular maintenance work, some structural weaknesses were found on the flyover. Immediately, the message was conveyed to the concerned persons of the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) and Kolkata Police. It was decided that speed restrictions would be imposed on Chingrihata flyover. On August 19, Commissioner of Police (CP), Kolkata, Anuj Sharma issued an order regarding the speed limit and notified that maximum speed of any vehicle must be 30 kilometres per hour. Sources claimed that if any vehicle runs above the speed limit, chances of damage of the flyover are feared. However, maximum cars do not follow the restrictions and are driven above the specified speed limit.

According to Kolkata Traffic Police, the flyover will be closed for load capacity test from 9 pm on Friday. It will remain closed till 8 am on Monday.

Cars travelling towards New Town will have to take a right turn from GD Island to reach the road in front of Nicco Park.

From there, New Town-bound vehicles will have to take a left turn to avail the Nabadiganta flyover to reach Technopolis and New Town.

Earlier, load capacity tests of Sealdah flyover, Aurobinda Setu, Jibanananda Setu and Kalighat bridge were conducted.
